High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Ariah Park Central School values the importance of High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) and ensures that programs and lessons are adjusted to maximise the talents of our students across a range of fields.

Our Learning & Support Team as well as HPGE Team, meet throughout the year to identify and make recommendations to staff about how they can foster talent development of students who show potential and/or giftedness.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Ariah Park Central School, HPGE is part of everyday practice. We are committed to recognising and nurturing high potential and gifted students, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive at our school.

  • Our supportive classroom environments promote a sense of belonging and encourage risk-taking, creativity and collaboration.
  • Groups are flexible for collaboration and presentation.
  • Students learn from tasks that promote choice, authenticity, and critical and creative thinking.
  • When evidence shows a need for more, students are extended and have the opportunity to access advanced pathways.
Across our school

Our school offers a range of whole-school programs that support student growth.

  • All our students, including high potential and gifted students, are encouraged to take on leadership roles through student representative council leadership, sporting leadership roles and leadership of major events, including ANZAC and Remembrance Day assemblies.
  • Talent in the arts is fostered through our annual Night of The Arts, which encompasses dance, drama, music and visual arts.
  • We have partnered with the Mobile Occupation Training Unit to promote students' talents in sound and lighting for performances.
  • We also engage with local groups to foster bespoke programs that promote talent development.
  • Hold an Annual Academic Olympiad that focuses on celebrating academics across our K-12 setting.
  • Our students can take part in representative and inter-school sport competitions and carnivals.
  • Students can be accelerated in Stage 6 courses in Year 10 to support their pursuit of excellence in academics.
Across NSW

Our students participate in a wide range of statewide programs to extend and enrich student potential.

  • We provide access to local, state and national competitions and events to help students explore and extend their talents.
  • Participation in events coordinated by the NSW Arts Unit, including the Southern Tablelands Dance Festival and Kids Rapt on Performing.
